OUR CHAPTER HISTORY

Our chapter had its beginnings when 26 service-minded women known as the Triangle Park Civic League sought to take their community service organization to the next level. So, on June 9, 1984, under the guidance of Lulu Robinson, Rebecca Edmonds, and most notably, the late Dr. Helen G. Edmonds, Past National President of The Links, Incorporated, these 26 women from Orange, Wake and Durham Counties were chartered as the Triangle Park Chapter, The Links, Incorporated. The chapter establishment officer was Jacqueline Robinson of Washington, DC. The National President was Dr. Dolly Deselle Adams, also of Washington, DC, and the Southern Area Director, during that time, was Regina Jollivette Frazier of Miami, FL.

Vivian Edmonds became the first president of the Triangle Park (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. She served in this capacity from 1984-1986. Under 17 dynamic presidents, the Triangle Park (NC) Chapter has grown to 70 members including alumna members. Likewise, our community service and involvement across the 5 facets – The Arts, Services to Youth, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services have also grown tremendously. On the Area level, our projects won third place for the Umbrella Approach at the 35th Southern Area Conference. More recently, our Services to Youth facet won first place for Best Practices at the 39th Southern Area Conference in Mobile, AL. Over the last 30 plus years, we have made a positive impact in the three counties we serve. Our members are community leaders, business owners, corporate managers, attorneys, educators, scientists, nurses, and physicians who willingly donate their time, talent, and financial resources to community Link-sponsored service projects and programs.
